Don't Delay Your Sarcoma Diagnosis!
Early detection and accurate diagnosis can improve your treatment outcome.
- Soft tissue sarcomas may present as a painful or painless soft tissue mass
- Bone sarcomas are usually painful and difficult to see on initial X-rays
-
Patients should be evaluated within 6-8 weeks with an MRI, CAT scan, or ultrasound if:
- Soft tissue mass measures 5 cm (2 inches) or larger and has increased in size over 1-2 months
- Bone tumor visible with an X-ray causes more than 6 weeks of persistent/worsening pain - If imaging indicates a possible tumor, the patient should be referred to a sarcoma specialist at a sarcoma center within 2 weeks for a biopsy and further evaluation
- You do not know what you have until you obtain a biopsy.
